The Band

Excerpts from the musicians behind Spoon Bend.

“I'm Yuuya, and I'm the lead singer and second best guitarist in Spoon Bend. I also write and produce the music and have somehow stumbled into the role of head guy. Spoon Bend started when Jack and I met in high school through a mutual friend. We’ve been playing together since 2018, around which time I wrote Love Turned Blue, a song we found just good enough to release it under Spoon Bend (a name picked since “Honeydew” was taken (duh)). I sat next to Thomas in class, where I successfully recruited (bullied) him into the band. A year passed, in which we released our first EP, and we had just started working on a music video when my coworker mentioned her brother was a talented guitarist. And so we found our sex appeal, Ami. Since then, we’ve released a pretty solid album, become bestest friends, and alienated many of our listeners all while pursuing our wild dreams of wooing your mother."

“My name is Jack and I’m the bassist (and when I beg Yuuya, a guitarist and singer) in Spoon Bend.  I’ve been playing with Yuuya since we met in grade 9, but I put in a fraction of effort into this band compared to Yuuya, so I’m happy to assume the position of bassist.  While playing bass I get to have fun, talk shit about Yuuya with Ami and Thomas, and all around play some groovy bars that only the fellow bassists in the audience will appreciate whatsoever.  Otherwise, I design art for the band, write songs, and practice the bass ALL the live long day.  All jokes aside, I love this band and everything it stands for; being able to pour my heart into songs and perform for friends, family, and fans is just about the coolest thing I do.  I like to say I dedicate my craft to fellow bassist/singer/scot, Jack Bruce, but in reality, it’s dedicated to all of our weird fans.  As Joe Pesci would say, ‘It’s my privilege’.”

“I’m Ami, also the second-best guitarist in Spoon Bend. My passion for the guitar started in grade 9, when I heard a busker strumming the intro to “Wish You Were Here” at Bathurst Station in Toronto.  As soon as I got home, I picked up my dad’s old guitar, watched a Pink Floyd YouTube Tutorial, and never stopped learning. After a few years of jamming in my bedroom, I was lucky enough to cross paths with Yuuya, Jack, and Thomas and join their super cool band Spoon Bend. Despite facing some practicing & performing obstacles due to COVID, we managed to record some of Yuuya’s songs, play a few gigs, and become close friends in the process. I’m super grateful to be a part of this journey and stoked to see what the future brings for Spoon Bend.”
